BCU 2 Star Award Training/Improvers Course This course is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water in both kayak and open canoe. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact.
Cost: (2 days) £140.00 - plus BCU certificate fees if appropriate
All course costs include safety equipment, wetsuit & qualified instructors.

BCU 2 Star Award Assessment The BCU 2 Star Assessment is a fun and relaxed day of paddling on our reservoir in Birmingham, in which you’ll receive feedback on how your skills compare to the BCU 2 Star standard and tips on how to improve! This assessment is for the new BCU 2 Star Award. The new 2 Star Award is a general paddlesports award in which candidates are assessed on fundamental flat water skills in both canoe and kayak.
Cost: (1 day) £65.00 - plus BCU certificate fees if appropriate

BCU Aquatic First Aid Course Level 1 To provide a basic level of knowledge and skill to render First Aid in a range of emergency situations and within a reasonable distance of medical assistance. To provide BCU coaches with an appropriate basic First Aid award.
Cost: (1 day) £55.00 plus BCU regisration fees
2010 course dates: 9th April & 24th October
BCU Foundation Safety And Rescue This course aims to provide the participant with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely and to be able to deal with common emergencies. These skills then form the basis of all safety and rescue training throughout the BCU scheme.
Cost: (1 day) £65.00
2010 course dates: 16th May & 16th October
Previous experience: you will need to hold either the new 2 Star personal performance award, both old 2 Star canoe and kayak tests or be at that ability. You must be able to swim in normal canoeing clothing and a minimum of 14 years old. Whilst a valid first aid certificate is not essential, it is highly recommended.
BCU/ UKCC Level 1 Certification in Coaching Paddlesport This is the first step on the paddlesport coaching pathway. It will introduce you to the fundamentals of good coaching practice and will help you to understand and coach the technical and tactical aspects of your sport.
4 day course: 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th March or 31st July, 1st, 7th, 8th Aug 2010 COST: £210.00
Previous experience: You will need to hold either the new 2 Star personal performance award or both old 2 Star canoe and kayak tests. A valid first aid certificate is not essential but is highly recommended. PLEASE ENSURE you contact the British Canoe Union and complete any pre-course administration and paperwork prior to attending the course, and bring all paperwork with you.
BCU/UKCC Level 2 Training Certification in Coaching Paddlesport This is the second step on the paddlesport coaching pathway. It focuses on progressive coaching, helping you to develop your students within their first 3 years of paddling, through a series of sessions.

Previous Experience: Coach Level 1 Training, new 2 Star or old 2 Star kayak and 2 Star canoe, 3 Star in either a single or double bladed discipline. PLEASE ENSURE you contact the British Canoe Union and complete any pre-course administration and paperwork prior to attending the course, and bring all paperwork with you.
BCU/UKCC Level 2 Assessment Certification in Coaching Paddlesport If successful, this one-day assessment leads to certification as a Level 2 coach in paddlesports. Candidates must present a completed workbook at assessment and complete the practical components of the assessment.

Cost: £60.00
Previous experience: a valid First Aid certificate, hold 3 Star in main discipline and demonstrate 3 Star competency in an alternative. Minimum age: 18 years, must have completed: Level 2 training and 20 hours of relevant coaching experience, Criminal Records Bureau check (contact BCU), child protection training, assessment tasks in assessment pack and professional development modules of your choice.
